day 1,486

pedometer: 6,500 steps

Today was quite long. Classes started at 9:30, and I just finished. It's an amazingly CRAZY day, but I love every moment of it.

Tomorrow will be stressful, but it'll be good. I don't start till 10 and I'll finish up around 6. Class from 10-10:50... break till 1.... class till 2.. then work till 6. So, it's going to be a long day, but a good one.

day 1,487

pedometer: 6,394 steps

Today.. was INSANE! If I wasn't in class, I was in the library.. and if I wasn't in the library I was at work. It was a great day.. but just busy. I've got a paper due next week over a book, that thankfully I read this week. But I've still got another book I have to read on. It's a straight history style book, so reading it takes a good hour or two.. but it's all good.

I'm looking forward to the weekend.. going home to spend some time with the family. yay

day 1,488

yet again.. all day sunday i was in the library

day 1,489

sorry.. all day saturday i spent in the library. blah!

day 1,490

I don't have my pedometer around me, but I got somewhere around 4,000 steps.

Today was short. I had one class this morning, and then two hours of work.

Class was good. I had a french quiz. I messed up on one question, but I know what I messed up on. The question was "Que veut dire" and I needed to respond "Ca veut dire" but I forgot.

Work was good.. both hours went by quickly.

After that, I completely vegggggged out. Came back and took a nap, first one in weeks!

Hopefully I'll have more to post tomorrow.... we'll see. I'll be in the library most of the morning..

day 1,491

pedometer: 7,546 steps (3.54 miles)
just walking around campus, and to and from work

Today was crazy long. The morning started off great... had a wonderful first class, learned that one of my favorite professors gave birth to a baby boy this morning... but then all hell started.

My Gender & Globalization class turned into a race issue discussion. It was horrible. One student said (and I'm paraphrasing) that segregation is the only way to stop racism. My instant thought, a modern day Malcolm X statement. I honestly wanted to throw my hands up and leave. While racism is still a very big issue in American society, I do feel as thought there have been STRONG leaps and bounds since our parents, or grandparents, generation. Look at Schools today. They are amazingly diverse today, something our grandparents experienced. I have vivid memories of conversations with my grandparents about those very tense years in their youth.

I honestly do not understand why our country can move forward for over 30 something years, but yet - the issue of race is still the only thing we talk about in history classes. I hate it. I hate everything about it. Realize that you're not the first race of people to have a hard time. We can go back to biblical times, when people within their own races were enslaving people. I just hate the fact that we cannot be blunt when it comes to American slavery.... it's over, move on.

Work was good.. just long. I enjoyed today overall.

Women's studies was awesome, as usual. We covered some great things. I'm going to look into starting a NOW chapter here in my community this weekend.... gotta do some INTENSE research. Hopefully I'll find something.

Anyways, now to study for French.

day 1,492

pedometer: 5,606 steps (2.63 miles)
just walking around campus and what not

Today was so long. I literally was busy from the moment I woke up at 7:45 until just a few minutes ago. It's nice to sit down and relax for a minute. I need to figure out how to schedule my time better so I can eat and workout during the week properly. Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will be my major workout days I think. I have the most time in those days. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are just crazy. I might be able to fit a workout in on Wednesdays... I'll have to see next week.

Well, I've got a quiz Friday in French to study for.. so that'll be fun. I'm actually starting to really understand all this stuff. It's fun.

As far as work, it's going to be something else this semester. I'll have to really focus with them, so that'll be good for everyone.

I'm hoping that tomorrow will go smoothly.. it's going to be so long.

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

day 1,493

pedometer: 5,500 steps (2.58 miles)
this is just walking to and from class and work.

I was unable to workout today.. just got busy with work and classes, but I did manage to get a good amount of walking to and from classes, so that was good.

Breakfast: I had a bowl of Kashi cereal, milk, and fruit.
Lunch: nothing
Dinner: Taco Bell (bad!!)

It was a LONG day! I had class from 9:30 till 12:00, then work from 1 to 5. And then another class from 7:30 to 8:45. I enjoyed my day though. It was really a lot of fun and what not, but I just was busy as all get out.

North Africa: I've got a lot of reading & note retyping to do for that course. I seriously have some major work to do for this class.

Gender & Globalization: I've got to think about my thesis for my paper before Monday, which will be fun!

Women's Studies: I've got to rework my paper, and turn it on online before Thursday. I'll definitely get that done tomorrow night.

Work: I'm really going to enjoy this semester. I'm now also a note taker for one of my classes, which is fun. I get paid to go to class and take notes, which will be AWESOME. But as far as my tutoring, I have roughly 12 hours of work per week with tutoring college algebra. I'm quite good in it, so it'll be a pleasure for me actually. I have something about my learning style that when I have a rough day, and have work to go to - I usually leave refreshed. I LOVE doing math. If I could, I seriously would do math all day long. I'm talking about easier style math, nothing like calculus or whatever, but algebra. I love solving problems. I might do math one day, but I'm more into history right now.

Tomorrow: I have French, Study of History, work, and then going to the library till 9 p.m. Tomorrow will be extremely long. 10 a.m. will be French, and that's going to be something fierce. We're already speaking in french, and that's crazy. I can write the French, but my southern accent just doesn't help when trying to speak it. But, I'll get over it.....

Study of History: I've got to re-read the book for this class, and somewhat write a paper before going to class, so I can get my professor to ok the theme of it. I'm an English minor, so I'm all about style and rules, but this class is totally against all that. So, it'll be a stretch.

Work: 3 to 4 p.m. - so it'll be a little less stressful. Just one hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays... 4 hours on Tuesday and Thursday.

Tomorrow, I might not blog.. but I will try to. I also need to workout.... ahhh I've gotta find some time to do that.

Monday, August 18, 2008

day 1,494

pedometer: 3.65 miles (7,769 steps)
that's without an official workout, just walking around campus.

it was the first monday of the semester, and it was quite packed. I had 3 classes, and on top of that, I got my work schedule. It's going to be a packed semester, but it'll get me prepared for my future as a teacher, so it's all good.

Eating wise, I did alright today. Breakfast was cereal, milk, and fruit. Lunch - celery sticks, fruit and water, dinner chicken salad, fruit, granola bar and water.. after class I had a frozen dinner that was pretty much all chicken, veggies and goodness. It was quite good to have something with that much flavor after a week of salads.

Well, I've gotta get to my little bit of homework and what not. More tomorrow.

Sunday, August 17, 2008

day 1,495 cont'

pedometer: 6,201 steps (2.91 miles) - I forgot to put it on as soon as I got up this morning, but I definitely got over 3 miles.

After lunch (which I had a baked chicken salad, fruit, and water) I went to the library until almost 5 p.m. I got a lot done! Wrote my paper, read for 3 classes, and did some research.

Then, I did a "lite" workout. Just 1.3 miles of walking today.. which is once around my college campus. Came back, and had another baked chicken salad, granola bar, and water.

I'm about to get in the bed... 3 classes tomorrow. blah!

day 1,495

got up early this morning, and went to Mc's to get breakfast -- it was a treat for myself. I know what you're thinking.. what the heck, a treat?!

yes.. I believe that there needs to be a "cheat" meal once a week. So I got the Big Breakfast with a Large coffee. It wasn't all that great to be honest. I could cook something better than it tasted, so I think i"m gonna do a little bit of searching later on about a good hardy pancake that I can do for myself. although, the coffee was amazing!

ok.. doing laundry, and then i'm going to the library after lunch to work on some homework. should be a good afternoon.

day 1,496

MY FEET ARE KILLING ME!!

I played golf this morning. I got out there around 8:45 and that lasted till almost 12. I walked the entire time, too. I fought my pedometer at my apartment - so I can only guess that I walked over 3 miles.

I then went to Walmart, and got some fruit and more lettuce for my salads. I stopped by Subway and got one of those $5 footlongs, I got Oven Roasted Chicken Breast on Honey Oak, with lettuce, tomato, black olives, green bell peppers, and banana peppers - with just a touch of Honey mustard. That lunch... was AMAZING! I drank about 3 liters of water this morning, too.

I kinda just laid around this afternoon. I needed to rest my legs/feet, because I wanted to get another workout in that evening... so I was a complete waste this afternoon.

Around 5:30, I went out for my walk. I got in 6,475 steps (3.04 miles) in just under an hour!! I'm getting quicker ;- )

For dinner I had a salad with some wonderful lettuce and spinach, carrots, pico de gallo (tomatoes, onions and some spices), cheese, tuna and some balsamic dressing. It's wonderful and very low on the calories. I'm not really counting the calories, simply because I know the vegetables and protein are good for me, the cheese I keep to a minimal amount (gotta get the diary in for the day), and the dressing is just under 50 calories for a tablespoon.

I'm working on my 4th and 5th liter of water....

Overall, it was a great day!

tomorrow: gotta go to the library for a couple of hours and do some reading, revising of my papers, and study.

Friday, August 15, 2008

day 1,497

I had a great day. I got all my homework done, and on top of that.... I worked out HARDCORE! I got in 13,028 steps (6.12 miles) for the day.. almost like 4 of that was my workout tonight. I think in about a month, I'll be up for hitting the gym. I got curious to see how much I had lost in just a few days... and I've lost 5 pounds in 2 days. I won't weigh myself again until Next Thursday, because that's my "weigh in day" but as long as I can keep losing 5 pounds a week, I'll have my goal weigh in a few months.

I'm gonna be playing golf tomorrow morning.. so I'll get another crazy workout in. Goodness knows many steps I'll get just by playing golf. I just might hit 15k-20k steps tomorrow! That'd be sick. Well, enough of day 1,497... tomorrow's gonna be great.

I just hope I can keep going and get over the "3 week hump" - once I stick to this routine for 3 weeks, I know it'll be more like a lifestyle change than anything.

start of the day

It's been good so far. I had class this morning, and it was French. I've gotta learn this language since I'm going into the Peace Corps in about a year, and I talked my professor afterwards and she was more than willing to help me. Gotta love that about college!!

I have to admit, I had McDonalds for lunch.. my own fault. I went to the library after class, and did almost 3 hours of homework.. which was great! I'm totally done for the weekend, other than just revision of the papers I had to write. I still got to read for my North Africa class.. I'll get to that tonight probably. Well, I'm waiting on my clothes to wash & dry and then I'll be headin to work out..

post more later.

woooho!

I fixed my computer!! PRAISE! I'm so excited because I honestly did not have the money to send my computer off to be looked at.. thank goodness for the FAQs and the Contact Us on websites!

day 1,498 - blah!

I hate technology. I try to keep my computer in good shape - like software and what not. So, I wanted to update my Anti-Virus... followed each step like the screen said. And then it fails to install. So.... I do what most people do... retried it. Well, then my computer tells me about some klif.sys file - I DONT KNOW WHAT THE CRAP IT'S TALKING ABOUT!

So.. after all that.. I still had a good day though. Woke up this morning at 8.. was suppose to wake up at 6 to go for my cardio, but it was the first day of classes.. I needed the sleep. So I had class from 9:30 till 12:15 - and then had the whole afternoon to myself. I went for my walk from 3 to 4, stretched, did abs.. it was great. And then had class at 7:30.

It's Women's Studies. I'm one of 3 guys in there.. and I love it already. I'll post more tomorrow. I'm tired.

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

blah 1,499 days left

Ok.. I'm gonna get real in this one.

I love working out.. but cardio isn't my friend. I walked just over 3 miles in about an hour, which was ok. I can't run yet, so I've gotta "crawl before I walk" kinda thing right now. I think if I get a good few months of hardcore walking under me - I'll be able to run by Christmas. That's my goal.. 4 months, and I want to be running the whole time I'm doing my cardio routine.

Afterwards, I got in a good dinner. Salad with tuna and a very lite dressing, fruit, and 1 liter of water. I'm shooting for drinking 4 to 5 liters of water a day. Which is pretty sweet.. if you're wondering how much a liter is, just google it.

Anyways, I've gotta do some reading for class tomorrow... and watch the Olympics of course!

way too much money spent

Who ever thought that education would cost this much? I honestly never thought I'd have to get a loan to pay for books. I just don't understand why we pay so much for education, but yet still aren't nearly "that smart." I paid almost $400 for my books today, and almost all of them were USED! Granted, I know the bookstore has to make some money - but I honestly don't understand why the companies have to come out with a new book each semester. Last semester I bought a Biology book for almost $200, and they turned right around and made a new one. Honestly, what "new" stuff did they learn about Biology in less than a year? Really....

I'm sure if we were to take a survey across the country, undergrad & grad students, we would all be paying entirely too much for books.

1,500 Day Challenge

I was reading the Times magazine while I was home over the break, and there was an article about the Olympics... yes, I'm addicted right now... who isn't?! Michael Phelps is killin' it.. Todd Rogers and big Phil just might hold out and do some damage tonight.. well this morning... our girls are doing floor routines for either Gold or Silver.. it's going to be a wonderful night!

.. as I digress ..

There was something about the closing days of the ceremonies, and how at the end of it we're all just going to be waiting 1,500 days until the Olympics in London.. and I got to thinking.

What all can I do in 1,500 days?

And that's when I issued myself a challenge. 1,500 days to change my self-image, mental image, everything. I want to become a catalyst of change in this very crazy world. I'm going to keep a track of everything. From the mundane to the extreme. Food logs, homework blues, testing stress, if I talk to anyone neat, meet someone different - everything. I want to track the process of human thought. It's going to be interesting - and definitely cool to look back on in a few years.

~time to get ready for the Olympics

FREE CD!

Who doesn't like something that's actually free? Well, Phil Wickham is giving away his newest cd on his website www.philwickham.com and it's called Singalong. It's got a few new songs, some old songs, some hymns.. all acoustic. It's just him, his guitar, and 3,000 people singing at the top of their lungs for the glory of Christ. It's absolutely beautiful. I recommend this cd for anyone who loves acoustic sets... and FREE STUFF! lol

blah!

On my way back to school, my car decided to get sick on me. I stopped to get gas, and then my car wouldn't start. I thought my car was going on strike from the high gas prices (I paid $3.89 a gallon by the way), but it was my battery. Thank goodness someone helped me with getting a charge on my battery - just goes to show that some people in this world still have a good heart!

Well, after a few phone calls back and forth with my dad - he told me to go to Wal-Mart in my college town, and thankfully they hooked me up. I got one of those 3 year warranty batteries with all the bells and whistles.. you know what I mean? It's got a 3 year this, a 9 year that, a SUPER CHARGE MAXX title and all that - and it cost almost $85!! Thank goodness I had the money to cover it. What would someone do in that situation with a debit card if they didn't have enough money in the bank to cover it?! Hopefully one day there will be some system to help people out if they are in a pickle, ya know?

Just got everything back in my room - thankfully there wasn't much since I kept my same room from the summer. It's so weird to be starting my senior year.

Gotta finish up!

Heading back to College

Gotta love that time when you get out of school for the summer - - - but then in just a few weeks you're back at it. Well, my summer was quite short. I took 13 hours of classes from May to July, and then got just 2 weeks off before having to return for another 17 hours of Fall semester.

My question - when did summers get so short? City schools (elementary, middle, high) start way too early now a days. I remember back in middle school we didn't till after Labor Day!! What happened to those longs summers?! I'm sorry Generation Panic, I guess you have to suffer for all of our past experiences with what the experts called "Summer Brain Loss" or whatever they call it. I wish you got to experience the 3 months or so of summer that we once had.

And while I'm on summer - what ever happened to kids having recess and PE classes? Are Americans that worried that 45 minutes of PE or recess might make the kids have fun at school? After I got out of middle school, I heard that my community was doing away with recess time and replacing it with a "reading period." How lame! Kids have to have a few minutes here and there in order to have a "mental fart" and just be kids!

Anyways, I'm heading back to my college town. I'll post later. WOOOHO for the olympics tonight! Todd & Phil play at like 9ish and Michael swims sometime afterwards. I'm so pumped!

~one love

Phil Wickham

You can find his music at www.philwickham.com

I have to say this man has truly been given a gift! He has a new FREE album out called "Singalong" which you can download for free at his website. I've been listening to him for a few years now, and he's such a storyteller! I love his lyrics. He has one song out called "True Love" and it's the story of Christ written in a way that a worship leader can communicate The Cross into a few words in which a fellowship of believers can sing about. (I'll include the lyrics and a video at the end of this post.)

I truly love the lyrics to this song. In the very beginning Phil writes, "Come close, listen to a story / About a love, more faithful than the morning / The Father gave His only Son just to save us." In just a few down strokes on the guitar, a story has begun with the listener. We're going to hear a story about Christ - and then the pre-chorus and chorus take over and we're heading to the climax.

" The earth was shaking in the dark / All creation felt the Father's broken heart / Tears were filling heaven's eyes / The day that true love died / When blood and water hit the ground / Walls we couldn't move came crashing down / We were free and made alive / The day that true love died." What a beautiful climax!

I've really got to get back to packing - but just wanted to share with you all about Phil Wickham.

"True Love" by Phil Wickham

Come close listen to the story
About a love more faithful than the morning
The Father gave his only son just to save us

The earth was shaking in the dark
All creation felt the Father's broken heart
Tears were filling heaven's eyes
The day that true love died, the day that true love died
When blood and water hit the ground
Walls we couldn't move came crashing down
We were free and made alive
The day that true love died, the day that true love died

Search your heart, you know you can't deny it
Come on, lose your life just so you can find it
The Father gave his only son just to save us

The earth was shaking in the dark
All creation felt the father's broken heart
Tears were filling heaven's eyes
The day that true love died, the day that true love died
When blood and water hit the ground
Walls we couldn't move came crashing down
We were free and made alive
The day that true love died, the day that true love died

Now Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive
oh He is alive
He rose again

When blood and water hit the ground
Walls we couldn't move came crashing down
We were free and made alive
The day that true love died, the day that true love died

Come close listen to the story

This is wonderful!

I've always wanted a blog, someplace that I can openly express my thoughts and ideas - instead of using an old school black & white composition notebook.. gotta love those things.

Well, it's that time again. The Olympics are on, and I'm glued to the TV, internet, and anything else that's Olympics related. I've been reading up on the athletes, learning about all the new sports, and really investing some time into praying for each of them individually. It's a wonderful thing that we have as Christians - the power of prayer can truly change the world. We're all living proof, of a loving God, to a watchful world. I thank God each and every day that we can go to Him anytime and anywhere.

The one thing in the news that's truly getting to me is the whole John Edwards scandal right now. He came to my college almost a year ago, and his plans and ideas really awed me. I liked a lot about him, but I don't think he'll ever be able to amount another political run after these things the media has said about him. Who knows, we'll find out in a few years.

Well, I've got to start packing. Classes start back up on Thursday - and I'm looking forward to it. I'm starting my senior year! I'll post more tomorrow when I get back.
