pedometer: 7,546 steps (3.54 miles)
just walking around campus, and to and from work
Today was crazy long. The morning started off great... had a wonderful first class, learned that one of my favorite professors gave birth to a baby boy this morning... but then all hell started.
My Gender & Globalization class turned into a race issue discussion. It was horrible. One student said (and I'm paraphrasing) that segregation is the only way to stop racism. My instant thought, a modern day Malcolm X statement. I honestly wanted to throw my hands up and leave. While racism is still a very big issue in American society, I do feel as thought there have been STRONG leaps and bounds since our parents, or grandparents, generation. Look at Schools today. They are amazingly diverse today, something our grandparents experienced. I have vivid memories of conversations with my grandparents about those very tense years in their youth.
I honestly do not understand why our country can move forward for over 30 something years, but yet - the issue of race is still the only thing we talk about in history classes. I hate it. I hate everything about it. Realize that you're not the first race of people to have a hard time. We can go back to biblical times, when people within their own races were enslaving people. I just hate the fact that we cannot be blunt when it comes to American slavery.... it's over, move on.
Work was good.. just long. I enjoyed today overall.
Women's studies was awesome, as usual. We covered some great things. I'm going to look into starting a NOW chapter here in my community this weekend.... gotta do some INTENSE research. Hopefully I'll find something.
Anyways, now to study for French.
